Comments:
Extremely lovable bike. Never gotten so many compliments people drool over the bike! Down twice after running wide in left handers when I lose confidence. minor physical damage, major ego damage. Bike looking used for sure now.

Comments:
Best bike ever ride, a wonderfull engine, very hard accelerations, sometimes too much weight on arms while duo riding in street. Good job to the french dealer's team: Moto Champion in Paris 18. Better riding on hygh way when in duo. Really happy for the power the engine gives and very decieved by all the problems I had

Red 1997 TL1000S (Updated: 1998.7.19)

Usage: 6,600 kilometers, Street/Sport.
Tires: MEZ1 Race
Owner: Mark Horobin

Location: UK -- Kent
Experience: 17
Bikes Owned: 7
Accessories: Renegade Stainless Slip On.
Modifications: Have cut away part of plastic box under rear seat (Behind tools) so I can store my Abus U lock (Only just fits) Took speedo apart to mark 30, 50 & 70 MPH. (better than having a silly sticker over the speedo glass). Had wheels painted black in centre and polished on outer edge.
Problems: 1) This bike was imported by D&K from Europe (Italy I think), they told me they would change the head lamp to point the correct way, they didn't. I'm going to phone them soon. My head light is europe spec. It has a projector type on the left as low beam and a normal type on the right as a high beam, both are single bulbs 55w. Have talked to D&K, all they do is adjust them down, problem with that is the beam is higher on the right then the left. It needs to be the other way round like UK head lamps. 2) They told me they have changed the ECU and thermostat, not sure now if they have. My ECU part number is #32920-02f00 112100-0071. D&K have said #32920-f01 is the correct part No. They have them on back order and are going to fit one as soon as they get them (incuding thermostat)11-05-98 ECU still on back order. 3) 3 to 4k Stumble, more since new pipes. 4) Front brake judder, also left disk gets hotter than right side (Intermitante). Clutch started to slip in two top gears at 7000 rpm, shimed clutch, seems OK now. Had new front discs, ECU and thermostat. Motor runs smooth, no stumbles, but now will not idle. It idles at 1400 and drops to 1000 when it feels like it, then it may stall. Checked TPS, still no good.
Comments:
Can't wait to run it in. Run in now. Good price from D&K. Still love it.

The 3rd generation chip has fixed all stumble problems. Leaking fuel pump gasket under tank.

Problems: Observed rising oil levels during winter run-in with low running temps (around 45 deg C) After run-in and Spring/summer, no probs so far. This bike is used for lots of commuting and tends to run hot tho'.
Comments:
Needs an adjustable damper for more feel at the front, bigger alternator/battery, good value, especially as a grey import.

Experience: 15
Bikes Owned: 7
Accessories: I do'nt have any boring aren't I ?
Modifications: Haven't had the time yet ; and don't know what I can do to make it better !
Problems: Had a surging at first in low speeds but it came out of it . And also found out that it don't like BP Gas . Yes ther is a Recall on all TL1000s because of the gasket between the fuel tank and the fuel pump mounting plate dosen't provied a tight seal .
Comments:
The biggest down fall I have found is that the handle bars are angled to much that the wrists get sore and my hands go nuuuummm . Any Sugg.? Other then that I love the way it handles though corners . I went to Mt. St. Helens last weekend and there was nothing but 20 and 30 mph corners and we were sweeping though them at twice the speed with absolutly on problems . The best handling Bike I have ever owned . You don't have to man handle it !!

Tires: Michelin Hi-Sport Race3
Owner: Graham Stewart
Email to Graham Stewart
Location: UK -- Midlands, U.K.
Experience: 30
Bikes Owned: 11
Accessories: Baglux tank harness, DataTag, Scottoiler, Hyperpro steering Damper
Modifications: Full exhaust system - stainless steel headers/pipes, titanium cans. Rear shock and forks currently being revalved. 6 inch rear wheel replaced with 5.5 inch GSXR-600 ('97) rim; 180/55 rear tyre fitted in place of original 190/50. Rear preload wound up to max to raise rear ride height. Yokes dropped 10mm to lower front end and speed up steering. Braided steel brake lines. Michelin Hi-Sport Race 3 tyres fitted. Suzuki grabrail fitted; excellent item, but what a price! 97 quid!! Suzuki should be reported to someone for blatant profiteering. Gits. Just fitted one of the new Ohlins units (obtained from Ken Summerton) - superb quality, but not a five-minute job to fit. You also have to take a file (or similar) to the gas-tank bracket.
Problems: Rear suspension massively overdamped on compression (bump). Front forks too stiff, but not as bad as rear... Bike was reluctant to turn quickly on track days and ran wide on entrance and exit to corners. Brakes poor with standard hoses. Metz rear 190 turns into snot very quickly on track with standard suspension and settings. Has anyone tried out any of the aftermarket engine managers such as Dynojet's Power Commander or FIM's Ultimap engine manager, and if so - what are they like?
Comments:
Tremendous potential, shame Suzuki didn't finish developing the suspension before releasing it. Unbelievable motor. Ultra-rigid chassis with suspension to match. New exhaust sounds glorious, looks superb, boosts bottom end and mid-range, goes absolutely ballistic at the top end. Grabrail should have come as standard. Performance now it's run-in is stupendous, as is the modified suspension. Ken Summerton, take a bow. You're a bloody genius. I was doing things at Oulton Park last summer (1m 57.6s lap, laying darkies, wheelies at deeply improbable places) that I have previously only dreamed about. What a bike. Shame that Suzuki have all but publicly disowned it... Ohlins shock further improves handling - sharper steering, virtually no wobbles or shakes and improves the drive out of corners BUT it's still too bloody hard on the compression damping. Just like every other Ohlins shock I've ever come across, in fact... The difference is, I know Ken (the man who can) will be able to revalve it to my requirements. That should make the bike just about perfect.

Problems: The 3rd generation chip has fixed all stumble problems. I get some speed wobbles?/frame flex? on high speed sweepers, maybe suspension. Not uncomfortable but keeps me from pushing the bike as hard as I would like.
Comments:
I traded off a 94 ZX-9R for this bike and have not regreted it yet. It isn't as fast on the top end as the 9 but is the FUNNEST bike I have ever owned.

Have had a lot of problems, in fact this is my second TL. The first one I had so much problem with so I sold it and bought a new GSXR750. This year I was promised that all the trouble should be fixed, but no! This was just a new start of problems! One thing was good. The engine was working great, and started when I wanted to. The problem was increasing oil level. The bike are now reworked and just now, it's perfect.

About a quarts worth I had to empty out to get it below full line. New ECU @260 miles. Bike out of Shop(05/30/98) Much Better but still a little stumbling. Bike going to Aurora Suzuki in Seattle for ECU reprogamming. Needs to be richened up a bit. If that does not work will consider Dynojet PC. Bike seems to run better with more Break-in.
Comments:
Miss my 900ss, but the suzook rips. Rails around corners faster than duc, but not as much feedback through bars. Think I'll learn to live with It.;-) (big shit- eating grin) Switching dealerships because of "POOR" work. From Bellevue Suzuki-Ducati to Aurora-Suzuki in Seattle. Problems: I've put 150 miles on it and it has fouled six sets of spark plugs the dealer keeps trying to blame me,bad gas or what ever, they tell me i can't let it idle, or drive it in stop and go traffic or it will foul plugs i say that is bull sh**.my oil level has risen also the bike is running excessively rich and the dealer is blaming me,(what an idiot)5-21-98 ...UPDATE...my tl has fouled two more sets of plugs,it only seems to do this after it sits, after short trips, this thing is driving me and the dealer crazy, they kept the bike and rode it 80 miles and it didn't foul plugs, i got it back and one and a half days(52 miles) later it wouldn't start.plugs were fouled ,they are gonna keep it and ride it in stop ang go traffic, to see if it will do it with them,i am getting very impatient so far two dealerships have put more miles on my bike than i have, half my mileage was taking it to the dealers....help if anyone has any ideas.... also the first dealer broke off the lower steering damper bolt and broke an ez-out off in the broken bolt, then they rigged up a short bolt that didn't even reach the fram to tighten up just so it would look like a bolt was in there...good thing the bike didn't run long if the damper had come loose and locked the steering we all know what would have happened.
Comments:
I love the low end torque of the engine and the shape of the bike but i,m getting tired of changing plugs evry other time i ride it!(i should have bought the 1200 bandit)

Modifications: recall damper new ecu Yosh RS-3 cans (aluminum - sounds awesome) All came installed by the dealer on the new bike. Just added the Dynojet Power Commander and there is a definite improvement in throttle response, fuel injection smoothness, and a little more POWER!!
Problems: Very slight oil weeping out of hole on right side of engine. (Dealer replaced seal (twice) behind water pump - Guess what - it's leaking again) Can't get the silly grin off my face!! Build quality was better on my Ninja. Very very cranky when cold.
Comments:
Had a '94 ZX9R. One ride on a friends TL made it seem like a fat horse. This much fun can't be legal (and I suspect most times it's not). Getting 34 MPG (US). Service manager who I know fairly well told me that Suzuki has told her (YES HER) that not one TL1000 engine has failed!! She also reports that the new computer does indeed reduce the horsepower of the bike. I believe the Power Commander has given the bike better throttle response and almost completely eliminated any complaints about the fuel injection.
